Drunken Telegraph
Find us in front of the Pantages Theater Christmas Tree!

www.drunkentelegraph.com

Drunken Telegraph is a Tacoma-based live storytelling show featuring the true-life tales of the people who live in the region.

We curate live storytelling experiences, offer workshops and consulting in storytelling, and collect important stories from around the region for various organizations and groups.

Megan Sukys brought Northwest residents’ personal stories to local radio airwaves as producer of KUOW Presents on Seattle public radio station KUOW-FM (94.9).

Tad Monroe is familiar with the power of stories to connect people through his work as a minister, teacher, writer, and as a community developer and organizer.

Together they have created Drunken Telegraph, a storytelling series that borrows its name from a travel piece novelist Rudyard Kipling wrote about Tacoma in 1889.

“Overhead the drunken telegraph, telephone and electric-light wires tangled on tottering posts whose butts were half whittled through by the knife of the loafer.”

At first night you can find us at our Port-A-Parlor Story Booth where you can stop buy and tell us your most memorable story from the year 2014! We will be recording the stories and posting them online as a collection as well as providing each storyteller with a copy of their story.

Every half hour between 7:30 - 9:30 pm one of our favorite Tacoma storytellers will be climbing up on the "soap box" to tell a live story. The storytellers will include: Tom Llewelyn, Tracie Bonjour, Ken Sikes, Megan Sukys, and Tad Monroe.

The group's original members -- Kyle Gootkin, Michael Pa, and Brittany White -- grew up together on the Key Peninsula, forming their first band in the image of Built to Spill and Modest Mouse as high schoolers. In 2012, they began working on their upcoming debut record, "Company", at MountainHouse in downtown Tacoma, where they would acquire their fourth member, Jesse Goodrum. Bucharest Drinking Team
Bucharest Drinking Team is a Seattle-based, Balkan-inspired party masquerading as a music ensemble. Founded by Team Coach Marchette DuBois in 2010 and fielding between 12 and 17 seasoned teammates for any given event, the sport-and-alcohol- themed Balkan music juggernaut has delighted audiences from British Columbia to the Bay Area. BDT has brought its unique (and fantastically costumed) mix of ecstatic, authentically rendered Romanian, klezmer, and former Yugoslavian disco collisions to venues including the Crocodile, the Tractor Tavern, El Corazon, Chop Suey, and Columbia City Theater; they’ve propelled dancers onto their feet at Balkan Night Northwest, Honk! Fest West, and Northwest Folklife (as hosts of the popular Balkan Misfits showcase).
